Haul | Sephora

Wednesday, December 30, 2015

For Christmas I was gifted a makeup palette that I couldn't see myself using, so I decided to go to Sephora and ask if I could exchange it for another item and pay the difference. After debating on a few items, I finally decided that I would get the Kat Von D Shade and Light contour palette. I've only used it once since I bought it, but after I use it a few more times I will post a review of it on here. I also decided to pick up some of the Sephora brand sheet masks. I've heard a lot about these, so I'm really excited to try these. I ended up getting the green tea mask for mattifying and acne prone skin and the lotus mask for hydrating. I've never used a sheet mask before and I hope I like these!

How to Survive Nursing School | 7 Tips for Success

Wednesday, August 26, 2015

As summer comes to an end, and the new school year approaches again,  I figured that it would be appropriate to share some of my tips and tricks for how to survive nursing school. Nursing school is a roller coaster and is both rewarding, and overwhelming at the same time. In the past three years, I have gone countless hours without sleep, spent almost all of my of time stressing and even had some mental breakdowns here and there. Although nursing school is hard, you CAN make it, and you WILL become a RN if it is something you are truly passionate about. So, without any further ado, here are my top ten tips for surviving nursing school, and for being successful.

Review | July Birchbox

Thursday, August 20, 2015

I cannot believe that it is almost the end of August, and that summer is basically over already.  This morning I was going through some of the pictures that I took for my blog and realized that I totally forgot to post my review and thoughts on my first Birchbox! The first box I got was the July Birchbox. So far I have recieved the July and August boxes, but I forgot to photograph the August box when it came in the mail so I will not be reviewing it this month. As I've mentioned before, I decided to try out both Birchbox and Ipsy to see which I liked better between the two. So far I have received two Ipsy bags, and two Birchboxes. Personally, I think I like the Birchboxes better, and I am considering canceling my Ipsy subscription. You get larger sized samples with the Birchbox, so in my opinion it is worth the money while Ipsy is not (I might post a comparison of the two later). so, what was in my July Birchbox?:

  1. Supergoop! Anti-Aging city Sunscreen SPF 30 - this was the perfect product to receive for the summer. As I mentioned in a previous post, I have very fair skin so I need to be really careful when spending time in the sun, and that means applying lots of sunscreen. Since it was a small tube of sunscreen, I mainly used it on my face, though it doesn't specify if it's a facial or body sunscreen. I used this every day when I was in new jersey last week, and I didn't get sunburnt at all. Not to mention, it isn't oily and didn't break me out either.

  2. Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil Hair Primer - this is by far my favorite product that came in this months box. I got a sample of this a month or so ago as a point perk from Sephora but I didn't end up trying it out until I got a sample in my Birchbox too. You apply this to your hair when it's wet or damp, and
it protects from heat damage from styling tools AND UV rays, which is pretty awesome. I not only style my hair a lot, but I also spend a lot of time in the sun during the summer and this was great for protecting my hair from any kind of heat damage which would cause my hair to break and become even more damaged. I'm actually considering purchasing the full size bottle of this product sometime soon since I really loved it.

  3. Vasanti BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator - I actually haven't gotten around to trying this yet since I just started a new skincare regimen that has been working out well for me. My dermatologist also told me that I avoided facial scrubs, because they tend to break you out more, but when I try it, I'll let you all know.

  4. Harvey Prince "Hello" Perfume - I actually really liked this perfume. I am very picky with my perfumes, and tend to go for floral or citrus scents when picking them, and this was just that, a perfect scent for summer.

  5. Stila Look at me Liquid Lipstick in "Beso" - I've been obsessed with liquid lipsticks as of lately, and I ADORE the Stila ones. These typically come in a set of three, but you get one of the three colors in your box. I got the color "Beso" which is a gorgeous bright coral color. They are very long lasting and have amazing color.
I'll definitely be buying the full-sized versions of these in a variety of different colors in the very very soon.

Influenster Vox Box Unboxing | Sunshine Vox Box

Sunday, August 16, 2015

I was recently selected to receive the Sunshine Vox Box from Influenster. If you don't know what Influenster is, it's a free website that you can join, where people review products. You can review products from fitness products, to food, beauty products, pet care, electronics and so much more! The more reviews you post, social media accounts you link, and questions you ask, the more likely you are to receive one of these Vox Boxes. You qualify for the Vox Box based on the type of reviews you post so, if you review mostly beauty products, you most likely will get a box filled with beauty related items. This is the third Influenster Vox Box I have received so far and I love these! This is also the first one I have reviewed since I have been so caught up in school. I filmed a YouTube video which will be going up tomorrow reviewing all of the products in this box, but here is a brief summary of each of the items I got:
  1. Blue Diamond Sriracha Almonds (not pictured) - my boyfriend and I ate these as soon as I received the Vox Box in the mail. I'm not really a huge fan of anything spicy, but these were pretty tasty. I think my boyfriend liked them a lot more than I did. If you like spicy things, I would totally recommend trying these out though!

  2. Bark Thins (not pictured) - This box also came with a coupon to get a free bag of Bark Thins, which are very similar to brownie brittle. I thought that they came in the box, but they actually give you a coupon to select the specific flavor you want. I haven't ordered mine yet, but I can't wait to try them because they look good.

  3. Dickinson's Original Witch Hazel Cleansing Cloths - these work as both a makeup removing wipe, and facial cleanser all in one. I think these are great for traveling or if you are on the go a lot. I haven't tried them yet, because I want to finish my other makeup removing wipes first, but I'll post updates here when I try these!

  4. Sinful Colors Nail Polish in "Beverly Hills" - I LOVE the Sinful Colors nail polish line. They're the same quality as Essie and OPI nail polishes, but are A LOT cheaper at only $2 each (you can also find them for $1). To be honest, I didn't really like the color I received very much but I would recommend the Sinful Colors polishes.

  5. Vaseline Intensive Care Spray Moisturizer (Aloe) - I am obsessed with spray moisturizers. They are another product that is great if you are on the go. I personally am not someone who likes to spend time putting on lotion which is why I think these are great. You just spray it on, and you are good to go. It's not greasy, this smells great, and is really soothing, especially on sensitive skin. I'm especially prone to getting burnt in the summer, so this product is perfect to apply after I've spent the day in the sun to relieve itching or irritation.

  6. Infusium 23 Smooth Moisture Replenisher Leave-In Smoothing Cream - I REALLY love this. It's essentially a leave-in-conditioner that keeps your hair silky smooth and frizz free. You apply it to wet or damp hair after you shower, brush it through your hair, then let it do it's thing and it leaves your hair feeling really smooth.

Review | Kat Von D Everlasting Lipstick

Sunday, August 2, 2015

I just got an order in from Sephora that included these two beauties. I've actually been wanting to try these out for a while now especially since everyone has been talking about how amazing liquid lipsticks are recently. I have also heard a lot of amazing things about Kat Von D cosmetics, so I decided to finally give these a try when I ordered my Becca highlighter in "Champagne Pop" a few weeks ago. These are actually the first products I've bought from the Kat Von D line at Sephora but I can confidently say that I will be purchasing more of her makeup in the future. I've tried a few different liquid lipsticks before, but none compare to these. I did a bit of research before buying these, and found that these were the two most popular colors. "Vampira" and "Lolita" are also very popular colors that I would like to try, but they were sold out. There are so many beautiful colors to choose from, but naturally I chose the bright shades. I got the shades "Bauhau5" and "Backstage Bambi." "Backstage Bambi" is a hot pink color, and is very similar to "Candy Yum Yum" by MAC (one of my favorites) and"Bauhau5" is bright plum color. These liquid lipsticks have amazing color pigmentation and dry completely matte. I'm a huge fan of matte lipsticks since many lipsticks, especially those in bright colors, tend to rub off throughout the day. The "matte" lipsticks I've tried from MAC, including "Candy Yum Yum," do not dry completely matte, so I'm really happy that I found these. These dry completely matte (I'm talking all you can eat and drink and these lipsticks will stay put). I wore "Backstage Bambi" out to dinner with my mom last week and it didn't fade at all. I would recommend these if you are a fan of bright lipsticks, or just want a lipstick that will stay on all day without budging. I'll be purchasing more of these for sure! Have you guys tried the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks before, and if so which shades are your favorites?

Review | Graze Box Subscription

Friday, July 31, 2015

I recently just received my second Graze Box in the mail and wanted to review it for you guys as promised. Unlike my other reviews, where I only talked about my opinions on the first box, I wanted to do something a bit different with this review, and decided to wait until I'd received a couple boxes before reviewing them so that I could share my honest opinion on the subscription service. anyway, lets get talk about Graze. The Graze Box comes with four or eight snack variety boxes, or you can buy the snack bag box, which comes with five large bags of your favorite snacks (same concept as NatureBox, just more expensive). One thing I like about Graze is that they have a bunch of options of snack boxes to select from, whereas with NatureBox, you can only choose from one type of box. In addition to being able to choose the amount and size of the snacks you buy,  you can also select to receive a box that contains only sweet snacks, or only savory snacks. Cool right? This box is also a weekly subscription, instead of a monthly one which has its ups and downs. I went for the 4 snack variety box which is $6.99 per week. The 8 snack variety box is $11.99 per week, and the sharing box which has the five bags of snacks is $25 per month or one time only. so far I really like this subscription box service, and think I'm going to stick with it over NatureBox. The only negative thing I would say is that the size of the snacks is fairly small, but they are delicious either way!

Use the code "CARLYC9VP" at checkout to get the first AND fifth box free!

(this post was not sponsored, I pay weekly for my subscription, and members are given promo codes to share).

Haul | "Spash!" Lush Gift Box

Wednesday, July 29, 2015

last weekend my boyfriend and I both went on "vacation." I put vacation in quotes because he went home for the weekend to visit his family and friends, and I stayed here down in DC, but my mom came to visit me for a Mother Daughter spa weekend and we stayed in a hotel. I got back on Saturday, and he came in Sunday and I went to go pick him up from the train station. When I saw him, he surprised me with this gift box from LUSH just because. It was such a sweet gesture, not to mention, I love everything in here! This is their "Splash!" gift box. I've never tried some of these before, others I have (and they're my favorites) so I'm excited to use everything! What's in the box?

  1. Seanik Shampoo Bar
  2. Woosh Shower Jelly
  3. Sea Vegetable Soap
  4. Ocean Salt Face and Body Scrub (one of my all time favorites)
  5. Lemony Flutter Cuticle Butter
If you would like a detailed review about any one of these products, let me know in the comment section below!

Review | Ipsy Glam Bag (July)

Monday, July 27, 2015

as I mentioned in a previous post, I've recently decided to try out some subscription box services to see what all of the hype is about. I've subscribed to two food box (Graze and Naturebox), and two beauty box (Ipsy and Birchbox) services. I decided I would try two of each and keep the subscriptions I like the best. I finally got the July Ipsy Glam bag in the mail a few days ago. I wasn't sure if I was going to get a bag this month because they put everyone on a waitlist when you sign up (one thing I don't like about the company), but it's finally here for me to review. All of the Glam bags comes in small cosmetic bag. The subscription service costs $10 a month and comes with five different deluxe size beauty samples and each bag is different. This month, the Glam bag had the following (from left-right):
  1. Jor'el Parker Classico Perfume - I absolutely hate the smell of this perfume. I typically like perfumes that are a fruity or floral scent. This perfume smells like an old lady type of perfume, and I most likely will not use it.

  2. Be A Bombshell Cosmetics Lip Balm in "French Kiss" - This is just a basic lip balm. It is a light pink color and smells delicious. I liked this product, but it doesn't do anything different than any other lip balms out there.

  3. Jelly Pong Pong Cosmetics 2-in-1 Shadow Liner - I typically don't go for brown eyeliners, but this is a pretty copper color that can be used as an eyeliner or as an eyeshadow pencil (similar to NYX jumbo eyeshadow pencils), which I think is really cool, but I'm most likely going to be using this product as a eyeshadow base.

  4. Eau Thermale Avene Clearance Gel - This is a gel based facial cleanser that is supposed to remove oil from your face and rid of impurities. I haven't tried this yet so I will post an individual review in a later blog post.

  5. Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Bronzer in "Park Avenue Princess" - This is BY FAR my favorite product I received in the July Glam Bag. This is a gorgeous mauve color with beautiful pigmentation. The only thing I didn't like about it is the fact that it's shimmery, but it still looks beautiful as either a blush or a highlighter!

Overall, I was disappointed by this months (and my first ever) glam bag, However, I am most likely going to keep the subscription until next month, and see if I get any samples then because I may have just received a bad bag.

Oil, Acne, and Pores OH MY!

Sunday, July 26, 2015

my skin has been breaking out like crazy lately, especially on my chin area (most likely from stress from school) so I decided to stop at lush and pick up the Catastrophe Cosmetic fresh face mask. I've actually tried this mask in the past, and I really liked it so wanted to try it again. It has blueberries which are very high in antioxidants, which are used to help replenish the skin, chamomile to reduce redness, as well as Irish Moss and calamine to lessen pores. I love this stuff, it makes your skin feel super smooth, reduces redness, removes grime and diminishes your acne.

Haul | Bath and Body Works

Saturday, July 25, 2015

I went to Bath & Body works the other day and decided to pick up a few things. I'm almost out of the current body wash I'm using so I decided to get some new ones while I was out. They had the 2 for $20 deal so I figured that I'd get two (normally $12.50 each). I got the Oahu Coconut Sunset and French Lavender & Honey. Not that I need any more candles, but this scent smelled amazing and it was on sale for only $12 (normally $22) and I decided grab it.

Beauty Box Subscriptions | Which to Choose?

Friday, July 24, 2015

recently I have been considering subscribing to a beauty box/bag service, but I am having a lot of trouble deciding which one. I've seen a lot of people review each one of these, and they all seem worthy of subscribing to. The Ipsy Glam Bag and Birchbox are both $10 a month, while Glossybox is $21 each month so I am considering trying both for a month or so to see which one I like better, and then I'll decide which one to keep after I get my first bag/box. have any of you guys ever tried any of these subscription services, and if so which would you recommend trying?

Review | Nature Box Sampler

Wednesday, July 22, 2015

recently I decided to sign up for some subscription boxes. I signed up for Ipsy, Birchbox, Graze, and NatureBox so that I could try out some of the most popular subscription boxes on the market, and compare and contrast them, then stay subscribed to the ones I like the best. The first box I recieved was my NatureBox. When you sign up as a new member, you can get your first box free (plus shipping and handling which for me was $2.99). The first box is a basically like a tester box, where you can sample some of their snacks, and see which you like the best. It comes with one full-sized sample of and four individual serving packets of their snacks. Both my boyfriend and I tried all of snacks that came in the first box, and I have to say, they are all delicious! After your receive the first free box of samples, you then pay $19.95 a month for five of the full sized snack bags of your choosing. In addition, they have a wide variety of snacks to choose from on their website such as nut mixes, granola, popcorn and more. Overall, I think that these snacks are delicious, and I still can't believe that they are healthy. They are not only delicious, but also low in calories, and nutritious! The only negative thing I have to say is that the price is a little high to pay each month, BUT I do think that you get what you pay for, especially when you start receiving full sized samples. I think I'm going to wait until I receive next months box of full sized samples to decide if I want to keep the service or not, but so far it is looking like a keeper. I'll be reviewing my other subscription boxes as I receive them in the mail too.

New In | batiste dry shampoo + macadamia deep repair masque

went to TJMaxx the other day and picked out some hair products. I have been needing a new Batiste dry shampoo for a while now, but haven’t been able to find them anywhere near me, so I’m glad I finally got my hands on a new one. I have also always been interested in trying out the Macadamia products, but have avoided purchasing them because I wasn't sure if they were worth the price. They had the larger container for $20, but I decided I would try the smaller one first to see how I like it. I will be reviewing the Deep Repair Masque once I try it out a couple times.

Review | Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in "Champagne Pop"

Tuesday, July 21, 2015

I am typically not a huge fan of highlighters, but I just HAD to purchase this. I bought “Opal” about a year ago and I loved it so much that I decided to give this one a try as well. The Becca highlighters are a must have of mine because they have such amazing pigmentation and color pay off, so a little bit goes a long way. Just as the name suggests, “Champagne Pop” is a beautiful champagne color, which makes it unique. I’ve never come across a highlighter this color, so there was no question that I had to add it to my collection. This shade is limited edition and was developed by Jaclyn Hill, one of my favorite YouTubers. You can buy this limited edition shade in stores, and online at Sephora ($38).
